Where Luxury Meets The Sky

Medium Jet

Medium Jets are recommended for up to 10 passengers and have a range of 2,000–3,000 miles. They travel at an approximate speed of 500–550 miles per hour. Examples include the Hawker 850XP, Learjet 45, and the Falcon 200.

The Medium Jet: The Decisive Advantage

The Medium Jet: The Decisive Advantage

The medium jet did not become the backbone of private charter by accident. It occupies a position in the market that took decades to define, sitting above the light jet in every meaningful way without crossing into the cost and complexity of a heavy aircraft.

Developed to fill a gap exposed in the 1970s, these jets established a formula of stand-up cabins, coast-to-coast range—connecting Los Angeles to New York—and seating for seven to nine passengers.

By the 1990s and into the 2000s, that formula had been refined considerably. Avionics improved, cabin quality caught up with passengers’ expectations for premium travel, and manufacturers began competing on interior standards rather than just performance numbers. The result was a generation of aircraft that defined what a midsize jet charter looks and feels like today.

The aircraft within this category reflect that full arc of development. Some prioritize speed, others cabin width, and others range. That variety is part of why the medium jet has remained one of the most active segments in private charter for four decades. At Celebrity Jet Charter, we maintain access to the full range of medium-cabin aircraft, with every operator vetted and every booking customized to the specifics of the trip.

What You Notice the Moment You Board

Passengers who charter a medium jet after years of flying light jets tend to notice the difference before the aircraft even pushes back. The cabin tells a different story from the moment you step on board. Here is what actually changes at this level of private aviation.

  • Full stand-up height. Light jets ask you to crouch. Medium jets do not. Most cabins in this category offer enough headroom to stand and walk the aisle without bending, which matters considerably on a two or three-hour flight.
  • A lavatory worth using. The enclosed, full-size lavatory found on most medium jets is a meaningful upgrade from the cramped arrangements on smaller aircraft. On longer legs, this alone shifts the experience.
  • Seating that allows real work. Club configurations with facing seats and a fold-out table turn the cabin into a functional workspace. Four passengers can hold a proper meeting at altitude without anyone sitting sideways or leaning over a seat back.
  • Nonstop range on domestic legs. Most medium jets cover routes like Los Angeles to Chicago or Dallas to New York nonstop, avoiding fuel stops that add 45–60 minutes. Fuel stops cost time and add complexity. At this range, the majority of domestic routes are handled in a single leg.
  • Access to smaller airports. Medium jets operate from a wider selection of airports than heavy aircraft. Regional and secondary airports that sit much closer to a final destination are often available, cutting ground time considerably.
  • Consistent availability. Medium jet airframes have been in active service for decades. Operators know them well, parts pipelines are mature, and experienced pilots on these types are not hard to find. That depth of operational familiarity makes for a more dependable charter experience.
