Flying is the fastest and most convenient form of transportation mankind has invented. Long-haul flights seem to drag on forever and all this time in the air is bound to take its toll on even the most resilient of us. However, the good news is, there are measures that you can take to help you make these long-distance journeys more bearable. Let’s have a look.
It’s a fact that the air in airplanes is very dry and therefore gets you dehydrated much faster than usual, which could cause anything from general irritability to horrible migraines. So, don’t forget to bring lots of water with you when you’re going on a long-distance flight because flight attendants definitely won’t bring you nearly enough water to keep you sufficiently hydrated. We know, you may feel the need to take less water on a flight to keep your bathroom trips at a minimum, but this is a mistake.
As much as it’s annoying to keep going to the bathroom, especially when you have a window or middle seat, it’s far much worse to be dehydrated over a long period of time. Besides, trips to the bathroom will give you an opportunity to stretch, which will put your body in a more relaxed state, so bring the water anyway.
While most airlines will offer you complimentary snacks and even meals for long-haul flights, it is wise to bring some snacks of your own just in case you get hungry. I think we can all agree that it is much harder to keep your spirits high when you’re extremely hungry and all you can think about is the next meal, so don’t forget to pack a few light snacks you can munch on whenever you start to feel hungry.
It is also a good idea to carry a pack of gum with you. Gum will come in handy when your ears feel blocked; chewing gum will help your ears ‘pop’ and help you feel more comfortable.
Strike Up a Conversation
Most of the time on a flight, people like to keep to themselves. But this is a long flight; you can only read, work, or listen to so much music. Try striking up a conversation with the person sitting next to you; you never know, they may actually be quite interesting and fun to talk to and you could come off the flight with a good friend or business affiliate. However, remember, if the person you’re talking to is adamant about continuing with their own little activity as opposed to engaging you in conversation, you should leave them to it and be respectful of their space.
A suit and tie or a nice pair of heels may not be suitable for long flights. It’s a good idea to wear more comfortable loose-fitting clothes if you know you are going to be in the air for a while. For men, a loose pair of jeans and a T-shirt should do, while women can go leggings and a sweater.
